Atlantic Sable Shilohs is not a large-scale
breeder. We have a small family of three of these incredible Shilohs. These beautiful creatures have never been caged nor tied and never will.
They
are an integral part of our family and are free to roam our small hobby farm,
although they very seldom wander very far from the house and/or barn, home of
their extended family of a few horses (and foals), cows (and calves) and sheep
(and lambs). Visitors (& strangers) are
often greeted by a pack of 120lb+ Shilohs running to meet them, which initially
is an intimidating experience until the visitor(s) realize that the real danger
is in being swatted by their wagging tails. The social attitude, intelligence
& gentle demeanor of the Shiloh Shepherd are the traits that really make
them a 'Rare Breed'!
We received our 'Braemar',
a beautiful plush Golden Sable, during
New Year's 2000 from Tina Barber, New Zion, after my having researched
this breed for almost two years. Even though I was confident in my research, I
still didn't know the Shiloh Shepherd. Braemar actually taught us about the
breed. She's 'very' confident, loves people and children, not aggressive and
extremely intelligent. She's incredible! After
delivering three beautiful litters, she retired in 2005 and is now a Therapy
Dog + our farm 'Queen'! Her puppies continue to thrive throughout Canada / U.S.
and her puppy owners still maintain contact with news and pictures. Thankfully, a few of her young 'uns never left home and still live with us
(the grandparents). These are her daughters Silver
(Braemar/Draco,
2003), a Dark Grey Sable, and Brea (Braemar/Samson, 2005), a Light Grey
Sable. Additionally, Tesa (Braemar/Ajax, 2004) lives in a fantastic home
on a farm next door with our friend and neighbour. These are our beautiful girls
and the basis of our breeding operation to promote and advance this beautiful
dog. We breed for size, temperament and intelligence. Our puppies are 'big' with
a medium - medium soft temperament & we do not encourage
aggressiveness. Their nature is to be a fantastic 'best friend' and integral
part of the family.
Silver: 135lbs (Braemar/Draco, 2003; Hips & Elbows:
OFA - Fair/Good) passed Canadian Kennel Club requirements for Canine Good
Neighbour Test and has proven to be an excellent Mama. She met Johann in 2005 and delivered her 1st litter
of '10' fatsos, Last year we introduced her to Oscar ........ and voila .......
'12' more furballs ........ WOW!
Brea: 136lbs (Braemar/Samson, 2005; Hips & Elbows:
OVC - Normal), already a Therapy Dog, has yet to
reach breeding age. Soon (2007) we hope she will be ready, as we're really
looking forward to her puppies. She has already demonstrated her
motherly instincts helping Silver in the nurturing and herding of her puppies.
Tesa: 130lbs (Braemar/Ajax, 2004; Hips & Elbows OVC -
Normal), a Dark Grey
Sable, recently passed her examination & we're anxiously awaiting 'mother
nature' after introducing her to Oscar. Her
first litter of furballs should be arriving during spring/07.
Our
girls are very, very picky about their 'guy' friends and are only interested in 'perfect
gentlemen'. He has to be
genetically right, healthy, have the right temperament, of reasonable size, conformation 'and'
intelligence in order to be considered 'the' perfect Sire for our girls! In 2005, after
several years research, we found our Oscar,
a Black & Red Sable, and the 'perfect gentleman'.
We continue to
search for more nice guys to introduce to our girls though. Brodie recently met Tesa and,
as any responsible parent should, we are always searching the landscape for more
such gentlemen. Also, we're awaiting the arrival of a new 'little' guy, soon to be
introduced to the world.
Other
new additions to our World of Shilohs include 'Greta' and 'Sally'.
Photos
and info coming soon!
It may be difficult to imagine, however, we have three (3) adult
Shilohs living here and, occasionally, have 4, 5 or or even more adult Shilohs here at
one time (excluding when there are puppies around). They all get along perfectly
well ...... are loose ........ and playing ..... they are
incredible!
No Kennels - No
Cages - No Problems!
